ACS RPL.
Your experience, evidenced.
A practical, evidence-led guide to the Australian Computer Society (ACS) Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) skills assessment — from pathway fit and occupation selection to professional currency and submission readiness.
Ethical guidance, always: your two ACS Project Reports must be entirely your own original work. We never write or edit them.

Is the ACS RPL pathway right for you?
RPL focuses on professional experience, not a tertiary qualification assessment. Understanding the threshold before gathering documents can save time, expense and avoidable rework.
Experience
Six relevant years
ACS currently specifies six years of relevant professional IT work. Relevant experience must align with the chosen occupation and be supported by verifiable documentation.
Recency
Recent professional work
Your most recent relevant employment should be active or have occurred within the two years preceding your RPL assessment submission.
Intensity
At least 20 hours weekly
ACS describes qualifying professional IT employment as at least 20 hours per week. Experience below this threshold is not considered suitable under the published rules.
ACS also specifies that tertiary qualifications are not assessed in this RPL pathway. Where appropriate, compare the other ACS assessment pathways. Read the current ACS criteria
Five parts of a decision-ready application.
Build an evidence file that tells one consistent story about your identity, employment, practical knowledge and current skills. Each supporting document must follow ACS requirements.
Proof of identity
ACS lists two forms of photo ID and, when applicable, evidence of a legal name change. Follow the official format and translation rules.
Paid employment evidence
Prepare employer references with dates and duties, together with payment evidence to verify your professional work history.
Two RPL Project Reports
Use the official ACS RPL form to explain your own practical work, IT knowledge and relevant career episodes.
Professional currency
At least two relevant forms of evidence demonstrating current skills and knowledge in your nominated occupation.
Vendor certification, where relevant
Optional evidence may be applicable to certain DevOps and Cyber Security occupations. Check the current ACS requirements.
Follow the official checklist
Document standards vary by evidence type. Use ACS as the source of truth before uploading anything.
Your work.
Your words.
Nothing outsourced.
ACS requires two original Project Reports documenting practical application of professional IT knowledge. It may conduct similarity checks and require attribution for borrowed material.

Show that your skills are current.
ACS requires at least two forms of Professional Currency Evidence related to your nominated occupation, completed within the preceding two years. You can draw from several evidence categories.
Important distinction
Professional currency evidence supports a demonstration of current knowledge; it is not a substitute for the required employment evidence or the two original Project Reports.

About Australia Pathways ↗Answers without the guesswork.
Key practical questions, grounded in published ACS rules. Individual applications can differ; always confirm your circumstances against the official criteria.
Does ACS RPL require a university degree?
The RPL pathway does not assess tertiary qualifications. ACS instead assesses relevant professional IT experience and other RPL evidence. Applicants whose qualifications are assessable through another pathway should compare the alternatives before proceeding.
How much experience do I need?
ACS currently states six years of relevant professional IT work experience, with the most recent employment current or within the two years before the application. Relevant work must be at least 20 hours per week. The assessment depends on the evidence and the occupation selected.
Can overseas professional experience count?
Relevant professional employment outside Australia can be presented for assessment, subject to the ACS evidence standards, verification and nominated occupation. ACS determines suitability and recognised experience; working overseas does not automatically guarantee a positive result.
What if my job was not organised around projects?
ACS says applicants in non-project roles should document their work experience and the professional challenges they encountered. Applicants must use the ACS RPL form and follow its current requirements.
Can Australia Pathways write or edit my RPL Project Reports?
No. ACS requires both Project Reports to be exclusively the applicant’s own original work. We do not draft, rewrite, edit or ghostwrite the reports, and we do not offer plagiarism-bypass services. We can explain the official requirements and help you understand the evidence you need.
How recent must professional currency evidence be?
ACS requires at least two forms of evidence relevant to the nominated occupation, normally from the preceding two years. This may include relevant training or certification, professional artefacts, or professional development and industry engagement.
Does a positive ACS assessment guarantee a visa?
No. A skills assessment is separate from visa eligibility, invitations, sponsorship, points and other Home Affairs requirements. A positive assessment does not guarantee a visa or an invitation.
What is the ACS RPL application fee?
ACS currently lists AUD $625 for its RPL assessment pathway. Fees and payment rules can change; confirm the current amount on the official ACS Fees and Payment page before paying.
